How to Fish Skins: All Weapon Skins and How to Get Them
Updated 2026-09-02 · Steam How to Fish
How do you get How to Fish game skins? Every skin comes from the Reel of Fortune, the slot machine that sits on each island. You feed it a drip creature or a quest item, it rolls, and you either win a weapon skin or you do not. There is no shop that sells skins and no crafting recipe: rolling the machine is the entire system, and the only thing you control is how many things you have to feed it.
The item you insert does not change your odds, so the cheapest thing you can farm in bulk is the best thing to gamble. Every community farming route below is built on that one fact.
How the Reel of Fortune works
There is one Reel of Fortune per island. It takes a drip creature or a quest item as its token, and the author of the community skin chart states plainly that the item you insert does not affect your luck, so a spider crab shell and a rare drip fish are worth exactly the same spin.
The pool is island-gated: each machine only offers skins for the weapons available to unlock on that island, and it widens as you move up the island chain. A skin belonging to a late-game weapon has to be rolled on a late-game island's machine. Players report this consistently across the achievement guides; the developers have not published a skin table of their own.
What counts as a token, according to player guides:
- Drip creatures — rare variants of ordinary fish with rainbow name text and deliberately goofy models. They respawn indefinitely, so nothing you gamble is lost forever.
- Quest items and mini-boss trophies — the distinct drop each boss leaves behind, such as the spider crab shell.
- Boss corpses — one guide reports a dead boss body works as a substitute for a drip creature, tested on 1.0.10.
Drip creatures also feed the encyclopedia you open with Tab, which tracks drip variants separately from normal catches. See fish for the catch list and bait for which lure produces what.
Skin rarities
The tier names on this page are community-reported, not developer-published. A community mod README that documents the game's own interface colours lists the slot machine outlines as common, rare and legendary, and players describing the Steam achievement "GOLD GOLD GOLD" say it asks specifically for a legendary skin from the slot machine. That is the only rarity information available right now: exact drop rates per tier are not published, and no player guide has posted tested odds.
How many skins each weapon has
These per-weapon counts were compiled by players from the game's save data, not published by Dazed Games, so treat them as player-reported. They are mainly useful as a completion target.
| Weapon | Skins catalogued |
|---|---|
| SMG | 16 |
| Sniper Rifle | 16 |
| Knife | 15 |
| Fishing Rod | 14 |
| Pistol | 14 |
| Assault Rifle | 14 |
| Shotgun | 13 |
| Brass Knuckles | 11 |
| Boat | 14 reported, but the published list only ran to 13 |
That is 113 weapon and tool skins in total, plus the boat set, which save data keeps as a separate list. Weapon prices and attachment order are on the weapons page.
A save-file editing method for unlocking every skin at once circulates on Steam, and cheat-menu mods on Thunderstore advertise the same thing. This site does not cover either one.
The fastest way to farm rolls
Waiting for drip creatures to appear naturally is the slow route. The two farming loops below are both player-tested and both were still reported working on version 1.0.10.
| Method | Token you produce | What you need | Player-reported speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spider crab farm | Spider crab shells | Empty beer can bait, a fully upgraded island 2 shotgun | 4 to 6 point-blank shots per crab |
| Crab-Fishing Rod camp | Drip creatures | The crab fishing rod, nothing else | Passive; no reeling needed |
| Natural drip hunting | Drip creatures | Any lure | Slowest, but free |
The spider crab loop, as the guide author wrote it: reach island 2, buy the shotgun ($150) and fully upgrade it. Save for beers — the guide suggests at least $120 for ten can baits — and hand them to the sailor to turn them into empty beer can bait. The bait is what summons the crab, not the location, so you can farm it on whichever island's machine you want to roll at. Kill it, keep the shell, repeat until the baits run out, then spend every shell in one rolling session. Late game the same guide swaps to a maxed sniper rifle and headshots the crab the moment it surfaces.
The crab fishing rod camp is the low-effort variant: leave the crab fishing rod cast, right-click away anything that is not a drip creature, and let the drips pile up. It costs nothing, which makes it the better option before you can afford a shotgun. Both routes are player-tested, not developer-documented, and mixing them is fine since token type does not matter.
Cutting down duplicate rolls
Duplicates are the real cost of skin farming, and vanilla has no protection against them. If you play modded, FairerSlots by welffi (version 1.0.2, updated 2026-08-25, around 11,700 downloads, requires BepInEx-BepInExPack-5.4.2305) checks a roll before it lands and swaps in a different skin of the same rarity that you do not already own. Its README describes this as completely removing the possibility of rolling a duplicate.
Nothing in the available sources says whether it affects the legendary skin achievement, so do not assume it is achievement-safe. Installation follows the normal BepInEx flow covered on the mods page.
Cooking a weapon, and cleaning it afterwards
Cooking is not just for fish. Players report the grill's value bonus climbing from 1x to 1.5x, and that the 1.5x applies to guns and other items too, so cooking a weapon before selling it is a real money trick. The problem used to be permanent: the weapon came off the grill looking cooked and stayed that way, hiding whatever skin was on it. A Steam guide titled "How to Restore Weapon Skin After Cooking" exists precisely because of that.
Patch 1.0.10 (27 August 2026) fixed it at the source. The official notes list, under NEW: weapons and tools now get cleaned from cooking when dipped in water. Dunk the weapon and the skin is back — no menu, no repair NPC, no reroll. This one is developer-confirmed.
Two player-reported cautions: a fish left past 1.5x collapses to zero value and turns solid black, and the lava on the final island is reported to hold items at the 1.5x cap without any burn timer to watch, which makes it the safer surface for gear you intend to sell.
Patch history that touches skins
| Version | Date | Skin-related change |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0.10 | 2026-08-27 | Weapons and tools now get cleaned from cooking when dipped in water |
| 1.0.5 | 2026-08-22 | Fixed skins in the slot machines being invisible while rolling at 4K resolution |
Nothing in 1.0.11 (1 September 2026) changes skins or the Reel of Fortune, though it removed the iron sight as a purchasable attachment and blocked suppressor-to-compensator downgrades, which matters for the loadout you farm with. Full list on patch notes; the legendary skin achievement sits with the rest on achievements.
Sources and last check
Checked 2 September 2026. Developer-confirmed facts come from two official Steam announcements: patch 1.0.10 of 27 August 2026 for the "cleaned from cooking when dipped in water" change, and patch 1.0.5 of 22 August 2026 for the 4K slot machine rendering fix.
Everything else is player-reported. The Reel of Fortune rules, the island-gated pool and the "insert item does not affect luck" claim come from the "All Weapon Skins Chart" guide on Steam Community. The farming loops, including the $150 shotgun, the $120 for ten can baits figure and the 4 to 6 point-blank shots estimate, come from "The most efficient way to get skins" and "How to efficiently keep Gambling". The per-weapon skin counts were compiled by players from save data and have never been confirmed by Dazed Games. The duplicate-prevention behaviour is summarised from the FairerSlots page on Thunderstore. The common, rare and legendary tier names are community-reported too: they come from a mod README on Thunderstore and from player achievement guides, not from Dazed Games. The lava-cooking note is also player-reported. No drop rates for any tier have been published by anyone, so none are given here.
